Regional youth arts camp 2020
October 2nd - 5th 2020
D'faces' Regional Youth Arts Camp was a project to bring together creative young people from across the state, with a focus on connecting young people living in regional or remote SA. The program focused on building a common ground where young actors, dancers, circus performers and more could connect and collaborate. The event was run from a campsite in Halbury over the course of three days with workshops focused on empowering the young artists to create artworks reflective of their stories and worldview.
The camp was led by a diverse team of artists from a range of artistic practices and backgrounds: Rob Golding, Phi Theodoros, Michal Hughes, Jai Golding and Tamara Lee. They worked alongside a team of volunteers to deliver workshops and support to the young artists attending the camp.
The project was funded by Country Arts SA's Regional Arts Fund.
Running a face to face camp in the midst of a global pandemic took a lot of extra steps to guarantee the safety of the participants and total adherence to all regulations, but it proved to be an invaluable experience to all involved.
This camp has set the groundwork needed to develop this as an annual project to bring together young people across Regional South Australia. Building these connections amongst our young people are more important than ever. The youth arts sector have been greatly affected by this year's events and it is only through large collaborative efforts like this that we can continue to survive and grow.
This project focused on strengthening networks not only between the young people but also all the contributing artists and organisations.
The networks built through this camp will work to build a more vibrant youth arts community, particularly in regional South Australia, where our young people need it most.
